Why is my Magellan Roadmate 2000 interfering with my radio when plugged into the cigarette lighter?

I have a Magellan Roadmate 2000 GPS vehicle (got it for Christmas). It is hollow suction on the windshield, and has a cigarette lighter adapter for power.

When the adapter is plugged both into the cigarette lighter and the unit, my radio FM and AM get more staticky with strange buzzing and others. As soon as I unplug the adapter from the device or the cigarette lighter, he stops.

Clearly the power or something is causing interference, but is this normal? Is something broken or malfunctioning? Magellan customer support is virtually nonexistent if I''ve gone to the next best thing ...the people! Thank you for your help.
It may be operating in the megahertz as the first speaker said, but I am curious to know why I comment on some stations also others that are in different places on the dial?

Hertz is the answer, it probably works on the same megahertz as the radio station you're listening. Check the ground inside of your outlet, because of cigarette ash possibly making a bad connection also .. Many electrical accessories interfere with the factory computers and radios, such as cell phones can cause static speakers on newer vehicles. Good luck.

I drove to New York the other day with my GPS and all of a sudden he started acting crazy! I used it to help me find my way back to the Lincoln Tunnel and all of a sudden he began to fast foward and complete the journey. It does not stop there either, it was moving very fast in different places, as she had a small problem or something. It seems now, but I'm very worried, next time I need for a great trip. What was done? Has anyone else had this problem with the Magellan RoadMate 2000?

Mine did it once. I turned off and restarted and it worked fine. I was on a trip at the time and he has resumed as if nothing had happened. I was nervous for a long time but that was several months ago and the problem never repeats itself.
