How difficult is it to 're-tube' a guitar amplifier?

I have a set of guitar amplifier tube that is losing some of its clarity. I was told that retubed will clarify this point. How hard is it to do that? On the surface, it seems that you pull out the old tubes and the new stick in. Is it that simple? What's "biased"?

Thank you!

Remove the old and the new stick in. That's all there is to it. The tubes can deteriorate over time. There are a number of reasons, but most common is the loss of the oxide cathode due to bombardment by the low amount of ion getter who has failed to remove during processing. Not all tubes deteriorate at the same speed. My point is that it is proably need to change all the tubes. Try to find someone who will test them for you.

If you can not find someone with a tube tester. Try to change one by one to see where it restores the sound. It is usually those output power which comes first. Try looking at the tubes in the dark. If they glow blue, it suggests that there is gas inside. Even new tubes glow blue, but a tube that was bright blue for a long period has probably lost some of its production and will begin to operate outside the desired region.

Polarization is applying a small negative voltage power grid to the tube in the linear region. In the old days (and I mean a very long time ago here, when the tap is generally equipment powered by batteries, because very few people have electricity), was done by a separate battery. Then someone realized that by simply connecting a resistor value between the grid and ground, the gate spontaneously adopted a negative voltage. Selection of the value of resistance, known as gate leakage, set the voltage. In a well designed amplifier tubes spec, the polarization of the grid will automatically correct.

How can I build a tube guitar amplifier?

I am an experienced electronic technician looking to build a tube guitar amplifier. I did some research but all I found the books were written in the 50s. I am interested in the theory and equipment. I am a little confused about tubes. There are so many different kinds. IE: pentode, triode, ballasts, rectifiers, etc. .. In addition, there are various media covers and things. Much of the reason I studied electronics has an interest in guitar amps and effects.

Hi,
I try to understand this myself, planning to build this summer. I found this site really useful, it has instructions on how to build amps with different lamps with different colors, I think it has some substance theory too. Check it out
