Geocaching?
Anyone in geocaching?
You bet! Just found cache # 240 today. We started Thanksgiving last year. It's a great excuse to go out and find new and exciting places to go.
Can you recommend an inexpensive GPS system that could be used for both geocaching and navigation?
Please note if additional upgrades must be purchased to add navigation. I could probably get by with few details at the city level. I just want to know how far it is between cities when driving, etc.
Also wish to try a little geocaching. GPS to me is a luxury, so I do not want to blow a lot of money on him.
Thank you.
Unfortunately, mapping and inexpensive seems to be mutually exclusive. The Garmin eTrex Legend could fill the bill, but the base map on it (and most GPS units) does not include any detail of the city. For the eTrex, you need to buy City Navigator, which in fact covers all roads, not just cities, but it costs almost as much as GPS. List prices are Garmin 139 for City Navigator, and 160 for the legend. Street prices will be somewhat lower. One of my pet peeves is that all major manufacturers have GPS mapping software and property, and you can not combine.
Although you can get by with the legend, there are two things that disqualifies him for my personal use: No electronic compass and only 8 megs of space to add additional maps. A wild card GPS unit is now offered by Delorme PN-20. Can not speak from experience, but it sounds interesting, and may be useful to education. It is not cheap, but may be bundled with mapping software could be attractive.
Essential is that cheap is probably not the best way forward.

Groundspeak's Geocaching app turns 3.0
When it is warmer than the air in 12 ° F here in Denver, or I'm down somewhere, I consider that to go geocaching. If you're not closed to recreation, geocaching is to use a GPS receiver to find caches that may contain obscure the logs, the "rewards" or even clues to other caches. To find out where a Bury is cryptic, you have a basic account with Geocaching.com and then a search for "Big Apple" or tracking down to see what cheese you peel. The recess is your ability to find the treasure based on the latitude and longitude, as well as indices that may have been provided by the child who hid hide, or by others who found the shop before you. One point I like is the skills necessary to produce maps and photos for use offline. Sometimes when I am geocaching in areas that are not honorable accommodation phone shop, I thought it would be precarious Coop only crisps phone off. Now I can do this by looking for sites in the hands Getting an, then the qualification of dirt on my iPhone to track against.
I knew that was your question @ Steve, but as a geocacher iPhone, I can say that the test is the most depth. The spontenaity iPhone adds that helps me to live agile as a hide, and I can not sacrifice a figure dedicated cache, if the iPhone is a wonderful way to go.
At the end of the day, I'd be the girlfriend of a GPS more accurate, but I just stash away with my iPhone and it enormously.
Ahoy!
Our company has also developed a call geocaching, iPlunder.
This is an app that can do for a column GPX, the map of caches, take notes American football, update found / DNF pre-eminence and even send an email with your regular activities .
iPlunder will work with or without connecting text and even an iPod to mount, although some features are not ready.
