1) The answer depends on which country you live in the United Kingdom it work is spelled, I've never encountered it spelled differently. Preferred is subjective, and therefore different to different people - preferred by whom?

Free? I do not know if you'll have much luck with that. I doubt that is readily available. But try Blackwells in Oxford. They might be able to supply it. Not free though. You have to pay.
