What is a HF Transceiver w/ Spectrum Analyzer and DSP capabilities?

I'm in a game (about Hurricane Camille in Virginia) where I play a Ham radio operator induces in 1969. I am not very tech savvy and have a line of technobabble that I at least like to understand. Can anyone give me a layman quick rundown of what it is? HF Transceiver W / spectrum analyzer and DSP capabilities. I know what a Transciever is, but what is the position of HF? Any idea about the rest? Please remember that this was in the context of 1969. Thank you.

There was no DSP capability in 1969, as the DSP have not been invented yet.

HF stands for "high frequency". Radio frequencies are at high frequency between 3 and 30 MHz. The dial of AM radio ends in 1700 that is 1.7 MHz, about half of 3 MHz to AM radio is lower than the HF band. Consider also a TV channel 2 is 54 MHz for the HF band lies between the AM and the lowest TV channel. CB Radio (remember?) Operates from 26 MHz to 29 MHz, it is at the upper end of the HF band.

A spectrum analyzer is a device that displays a graph, as an XY graph algebra. In this case, the x-axis is the frequency of zero Hz to, say, 30 MHz, and the y-axis intensity. Thus, the spectrum analyzer displays the amount of signal it is at every frequency from 0 to 30 MHz. If you have activated your transmitter HF 22 MHz, a line would be made at x = 22 MHz and y = the amount of power being transmitted. The chart would probably show all the AM stations as vertical lines, also at their respective frequencies.
